Do you or someone you know have experience with divorce? I know I do. This episode covers a unique and not always talked about topic pertaining to our health and wellness – divorce.  I interview Jonathan Fogel – a divorce attorney and he shares his professional and personal experience with divorce. Whether you have gone through it or not – this is an important episode. One of the really key things Jonathan and I talk about is how self care for most people is at the bottom of the list and why that can be problematic.

I know I am not alone when I say I have struggled, am struggling and likely will continue to struggle with making peace with my body and my relationship to food.

I have written before about being obsessed with exercise and food and how my focus has changed to WHAT my body can do and how food can FUEL me and make me good and perform well.

Many things were great - YOU, working with clients, meeting new people, having really fun weekend work outs (with snacks) but internally something felt off.

It has easily taken me a year (or more) to figure out what it was. I was STRIVINGAND RESISTING all at the same time.

I was STRIVING to become someone that I am not. I allowed myself to be consumed by the idea of creating an all life coaching business and doing much of it online. I would see people doing this who have a great life and think to myself "wow-I'm a great coach - I should build my business like that. If they can do it - so can I."

But then I would RESIST.

It started in mid-December and ended on March 19th - the goal - 175 miles in 100 days. That's only an average of less than 2 miles per day. So we figured if you run more on some days it would all even out.

  • We ran 12 miles in the month of December.
  • A few in January.
  • A handful in February.
  • And then March came. Crunch time.

Throughout the months the "pressure" of doing this challenge hung in the back of my mind. Every day we didn't run it was a little bit of added stress. The times we accidentally overslept and missed a morning run. All of these turned into a month of crunch time putting in sometimes 2 runs a day. And putting in longer runs than we had done since Worlds.

Along the way I kept asking myself "Why does this matter? I don't really care about the medal, no one will know or care if we finish so why are we stressing out about getting all these miles in?"

"How often do you blame someone for making you feel a certain way, or for making you say yes to something you want to say no to, or for making you take an action you don't want to??" - Dalai Lama

The other guy got out and we both inspected our cars. Mine did not even have a scrape and his had a huge crack in his bumper. But what was striking about the conversation is he kept saying over and over again "YOU MADE ME BRAKE."

And I kept saying "It was a red light."

What I believe he was trying to say was "because you started to go, I went and then you stopped so I had to brake again."

I was laying in bed the other night and decided I needed to go to the bathroom (which I'm sure you can relate).  After arguing with myself for a few minutes I decided I was going to get up. The bathroom is outside of the bedroom but not very far. It's also important to note that the light switch for the hallway is next to the bathroom so there was no chance of turning on the light.

I walked out of the room, took a few steps towards the bathroom and then BAM!!!!!!

There is so much beauty in every season but because of the bitter cold we often experience in Minnesota it can make us feel very bitter towards the season.

My question to you is – what if you actually EMBRACED winter? If you put on all the hats, mittens, long johns, coats and scarves – what would you experience?

  • Would you see the peacefulness of the land from a zipline?
  • Would you go for a winter hike and watch the sun glisten on a frozen lake?
  • Would you see a winter parade?
  • Would you go ice fishing?
  • Would you watch a movie outside? ( did that in December)
  • Would you go for a bike ride?
  • Would you get up and watch the sun rise over the water?

Have you ever thought about taking up more space in the world? Embracing the concept of BIGNESS? Growing bigger muscles? Loving your body? Knocking down your conditioning and really spending time figuring out you are not in relation to your body?

Well, hold on to your seats because this interview with Kourtney Thomas is an incredible one. If you're anything like me you have struggled (and potentially for a long time) with:

  • Body image insecurity
  • Food obsession
  • Using exercise and work outs to "burn off" the calories you ate
  • Spent way too much time worrying about how you look in your clothes
  • Let your food and body thoughts take up too much space in your head and your life

Have you ever considered money and finances to be a part of your health? This topic is often swept under the rug, can create a lot of shame, and produces a ton of stress. There are so many areas of your finances to consider: debt, income, spending, car loans, house payments, daily coffee habits, gym memberships, dog bills, and so much more.

On this episode I chatted with my friend Ashley about the journey she took with her husband (not willingly might I add)! Once they united on their approach they were able to conquer an incredible amount of debt (listen to find out how much and in what period of time).
